Most Wasatch Front secondary water comes back on between mid-April and early May, and dry years can push that later. Here's what to know before you open the valve.
Typical turn-on dates
| Provider | Typical start | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Riverton City | About May 1 | Close your own valve by March 15. Set by four canal companies. |
| Herriman | Early May | Available only in some areas. Metered. |
| Lehi PI | April 15 | City encouraged waiting until May 1 in 2026. |
Startup checklist
- Make sure test cocks and drain valves on the backflow preventer are set to their operating positions.
- Open the irrigation supply valve slowly to avoid water hammer.
- Run each zone and look for geysers, puddles or dead spots, which often mean freeze damage.
- Clean your secondary filter if you have one.
- Set the controller for spring (shorter run times than July).
